There is difference also in the way teachers are selected, the way students are selected. The difference exists and continues to persist. There is a hidden corporate rule in this part of world while selecting a candidate;'If you want to retain your employee for a longer time do select mediocres not intelligent people.' Somehow the ghost of British colonialism is refusing to die down. Our stupidity to adjust not sove;to tolerate not fight head on; to weep not shout; to falter not deny has cost almost everything good with us, not only our institutions of excellence. We will have to pay for this.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5163265045103440783.post-33408363136944717642009-01-21T22:05:00.000-08:002009-01-21T22:05:00.000-08:00I agree with with your phrase," The entire system ...I agree with with your phrase," The entire system is such that it encourages mediocrity and punishes brilliance."<BR/><BR/>That is so true in most cases as I realize from my past experience. You have to memorize the text book or a lecture note from page 1 to the end like a song because even if you use your own terminology apart from what was written in the text book or lecture you expect lower grade. During my academic days we used to call such kind of study as "drinking a teacher's lecture". The student has no time and courage to seek indepth knowledge of a subject matter as his major focus is to cover his/her eye and drink the lecture in order to pass the tests. You should read, memorise and sing constantly and get bored of it and then throw away the notes after the test.<BR/>Such a fear-based competition system does not invite you for creatvity. <BR/>I appreciate teachers who encourage their students for creativity and wider vision than those who make them to sing their lectures.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
